Urban community living in old age: VILVIF Hamburg celebrates topping-out ceremony!

The foundations are in place: with the completion of the shell, Garbe Immobilien-Projekte has reached the next milestone in its own senior living project, which, with an investment volume of 140 million euros, will create 186 rental flats for best agers in the heart of HafenCity. Together with 250 guests, Tobias Hertwig, Fabian von Köppen and Dirk Heidkämper, Managing Director of Garbe Immobilien-Projekte, celebrated the topping-out ceremony with the more than 100 construction workers involved. Guests included Dr. Andreas Kleinau, CEO of HafenCity Hamburg GmbH, Bruno Escur, Director of Development for Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield's Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier, Olaf Goebel, Managing Director of SWS, and Peter Czekay, Associate Project Manager at léonwohlhage Architekten.

"A big thank you goes to all the craftsmen and people involved who made this project possible together with us. We are on one of the most complex inner-city construction sites in Hamburg, which presents a multitude of logistical challenges every day. The fact that we are still on schedule is also a testament to the excellent cooperation between the various trades and our strong project management team," Tobias Hertwig thanked those present. Fabian von Köppen adds: "With projects like these, we want to offer Best Agers more space in our urban structures and our society again. At the same time, we show that with the right foundation, a self-determined and diverse life is possible even in old age. In an urban location like this, future residents can benefit from a wide variety of offers to shape their everyday lives. Needs and desires have changed, and it is precisely these that we must also meet in the availability of appropriate offers." The location in the heart of HafenCity in Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier underlines this factor: the project is situated directly on the Elbe, and in addition numerous gastronomic and leisure facilities, public transport and the Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall are within walking distance.

Dr. Andreas Kleinau, CEO of HafenCity Hamburg GmbH, emphasised: "Überseequartier, with its intelligent mix of retail, entertainment, tourism, work and residential uses, shows where attractive city centres need to develop and sets new standards. This senior living concept as a special offer for the so-called best agers is in line with the social trend, because many older people wish to live and remain in the midst of the urban life of the city centres.
The 186 flats specially designed for best agers are spread over a gross floor area of approximately 21,400 square metres. The rented flats have at least 40 square metres and are complemented by a green inner courtyard for the residents, which is a roof garden with a total usable area of 1,500 square metres above the retail area. Above all, the communal and service areas, together with the barrier-free construction method, enable self-determined and communal living. The architectural design of the project is by léonwohlhage Architekten.

The uncovering of the first facade sides as well as the completion of the individual model flats is planned for the third quarter of 2023. The marketing of the flats with prices per square metre in the upper price segment is expected to start in the third quarter of 2023 and will be carried out by the operator SWS Sophienhaus Wohnbetreuungs- und Servicegesellschaft mbH. Completion is planned for Q2 2024.
